Ingredients

For the Dough
  • 3 cups 375 g all-purpose flour
  • tsp instant yeast 1 packet
  • 1 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 cup 240 ml warm milk
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter melted
Garlic Bread
  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter melted
  • 4 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 tbsp fresh parsley finely chopped
  • ¼ tsp salt
Optional
  • ½ cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 2 tbsp grated Parmesan cheese
  • ½ tsp Italian seasoning

Method

Prepare the Dough
  1. In a large bowl, combine the flour, instant yeast, sugar, and salt.
  2. Pour in the warm milk and melted butter.
  3. Mix until a rough dough forms.
  4. Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
First Rise
  1. Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl.
  2. Cover with a kitchen towel and let it rise in a warm place for 1 to 1½ hours, or until doubled in size.
Shape the Bread
  1. Gently press down the dough to release the air.
  2. Shape it into an oval or loaf and place it on a lined baking tray.
  3. Cover and let it rest for 20–30 minutes.
Prepare the Garlic Butter
  1. In a small bowl, combine the melted butter, minced garlic, parsley, and salt.
Bake
  1. Brush the dough generously with the garlic butter mixture.
  2. Bake in a preheated 375°F (190°C) oven for 20–25 minutes, or until golden brown.
  3. Remove from the oven and immediately brush with the remaining garlic butter.
  4. Allow the bread to cool for about 10 minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • Fresh garlic gives the best flavor.
  • If your kitchen is cold, the dough may need a little extra time to rise.
  • Don't add too much extra flour while kneading, as it can make the bread dense.
  • For cheesy garlic bread, sprinkle mozzarella or Parmesan over the loaf before baking.
  • Store leftover garlic bread in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days.
  • Reheat in a 350°F (175°C) oven for 5–8 minutes until warmed through.
  • Freeze for up to 3 months. Thaw at room temperature and reheat before serving.
