Ingredients

  • 1 ripe avocado peeled and pitted
  • 1 large frozen banana
  • 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • cups milk of choice dairy or plant-based
  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup or honey optional, adjust to taste
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup ice cubes

Method

  1. Add the avocado, frozen banana, cocoa powder, milk, vanilla extract, maple syrup or honey (if using), and ice cubes to a high-speed blender.
  2. Blend on high for 30-60 seconds, or until the smoothie is completely smooth and creamy.
  3. Taste and adjust as needed. Add more milk for a thinner consistency or a little more sweetener if you'd like it sweeter.
  4. Pour into two glasses and serve immediately. Garnish with chocolate shavings, cocoa powder, cacao nibs, or banana slices if desired.

Notes

  • A frozen banana creates a thicker, creamier smoothie.
  • Use a ripe avocado for the smoothest texture and mildest flavor.
  • Swap maple syrup with honey or a couple of Medjool dates for natural sweetness.
  • Add a scoop of vanilla or chocolate protein powder for extra protein.
  • Leftovers can be refrigerated in an airtight container for up to 24 hours. Stir or re-blend before serving.
